How to get started

To get started takes just a few simple steps:

1. Select the hosting package you want to use (you can upgrade to the next level up at any time by sending a support ticket).

2. You will be asked about the domain name for this package. You have two choices:
    a. if you have not already registered the domain name, you need to register it (you can register conveniently with PlexNetwork or use another company)
    b. if you have already registered the domain with another company, you need to either:
        i. transfer the domain over to the PlexNetwork registar (you still own it, we simply manage it for you)
ii. log in to your account at the company where you registered the domain and change the nameserver settings to point to ns1.plexnetwork.com and ns2.plexnetwork.com.

3. You will now be asked to pay for the hosting package (and the domain name if you've bought one) - we use PayPal because it's secure, quick and lets you pay either with a credit card or an existing PayPal account.

4. You will receive a series of emails - keep them carefully! These give you details about your two main logins.
    a. your PlexNetwork login gives you access to our support, billing and account management (but doesn't let you control your website hosting package)
    b. your cPanel login gives you access to the control panel used to setup and manage your new hosting package. The normal way to login to cPanel is to use the ':2082' switch. For example, if your domain is 'your-company.com' you type in http://www.your-company.com:2082 and enter the user name and password sent in your signup emails.

5. Once in cPanel you should configure:
    a. your email accounts
    b. install any software from the library (eg WordPress, Joomla, etc)
    c. create a mySQL database if required (WordPress, Joomla, etc will need this step)
    d. manage your files (you can even edit files directly) via the file manager icon in cPanel

6. Your main website is stored in the www folder (which is actually a shortcut to the identical public_html folder. If you upload any html or php files into this folder, they are visible to the public web. To upload files, either use the file manager within cPanel (good for one or two files) or use FTP - you'll need FTP software (plenty free at www.tucows.com); the login details will be in your welcome signup emails.
